The Asombro Institute for Science Education (home of the Chihuahuan Desert Nature Park), a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, is dedicated to increasing scientific literacy by fostering an understanding of the Chihuahuan Desert. To achieve this mission, we currently serve more than 13,000 K-12 students and 5,000 adults in southern New Mexico and western Texas with interactive, inquiry-based science education programs each year. These programs are designed to increase understanding of desert ecosystems and promote the application of critical thinking skills to local and global issues. Winner of the Outstanding Service to Environmental Education for an Organization at a Local Level Award from the North American Association for Environmental Education
